What is the goal of counseling for teen violence?

The goal of counseling for teen violence isn’t to shame a teenager. It's to help them take back control of their life. When a teen is struggling with violence, it can feel like they're on a path with no way out. We work together to help them understand what’s driving their behavior, so they can find a new way to express their feelings without resorting to violence. We believe in their capacity for change and are here to help them get there.

How can a counselor help a teen with their anger and violence?

A teen's anger and violence is often a way of communicating that they feel unheard or misunderstood. Counseling helps them find a new way to communicate. We'll help them understand what's driving their behavior, and we’ll give them a new playbook for responding to their feelings with empathy and compassion. We believe in their capacity to find a new way to live and to live a life that is full and rewarding.

What are some common challenges parents face with a violent teen?

Parents of a violent teen can feel completely overwhelmed and defeated. You may feel like you’re constantly fighting and nothing you do seems to work. We understand this struggle. We'll provide a safe space for you to process your emotions, find community with other parents who understand, and develop new strategies to help you and your child navigate the world. You are not a helpless passenger; you can get your family back on track.

Can a teen with a history of violence change?

Yes. Change is possible. Taking the first step to seek help is a powerful sign of a teen's strength and willingness to change. Our counseling is a non-judgmental space where we help a teen understand the root of their behavior. We'll give them a new playbook for responding to their urges, so they can choose a different path. We can work together to help them become a person who resolves conflict with respect and compassion, not with violence.
