What is the goal of counseling for victims of domestic abuse?

The goal of counseling for survivors of domestic abuse isn’t just to help you heal from the pain; it’s to help you reclaim your life. When you’ve been living in an abusive situation, it can feel like you are walking on eggshells. Counseling is a safe space where you can let your guard down and begin to trust again. We’ll help you process the trauma, rebuild your self-worth, and find your footing on a path that is entirely your own. We believe in your capacity to heal and to thrive.

How can a counselor help me leave an abusive relationship safely?

Leaving an abusive relationship can feel like trying to escape a maze with no clear exit. It is a very dangerous time. A counselor can be your guide, helping you create a detailed and secure safety plan that is specific to your situation. We’ll work with you to identify risks, find resources, and connect you with a supportive network. We understand the unique challenges and fears that come with leaving, and we are here to support you in every way possible. You deserve to be safe.

Is it my fault that I was in an abusive relationship?

One of the most painful parts of being a victim of domestic abuse is the burden of blame, but we want you to know with certainty: it is never your fault. An abuser’s actions are a reflection of their own issues, not a reflection of your worth. Counseling provides a space where you can gently put down that heavy weight of guilt and shame. We’ll help you understand the dynamics of abuse so you can rebuild your sense of self and remember that you are worthy of love and respect.

How do I begin to heal from the trauma of domestic abuse?

Healing from trauma can feel like trying to fix a broken bone without a cast—it’s difficult and painful without the right support. We want to be your support. The healing process begins with understanding that what you experienced was not normal and that your feelings are valid. We'll work with you to process the past trauma and find new ways to cope with the stress and fear. You can build a new life for yourself, and we are here to help you every step of the way.
