The hardest part of the therapeutic process is reaching the door of the therapist. It is my belief that the work has begun from that moment on.

Challenges We Support

Overcomers Counseling provides support to a wide range of challenges with an array of therapy techniques.

ADHD

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a neurological condition affecting a patient's ability to concentrate. ADHD is caused by a complex interplay of biological factors which, when taken together, cause a significant deficit in the brain's ability to focus and maintain concentration.

Coping Skills

Everyone faces distressing moments in life that test our ability to stay calm and on the right track. In order to keep a peace of mind, we often develop coping strategies that keep us from going off the rails. Coping skills, in fact, are an essential tool in maintaining good mental health-- everyone needs to cope in one way or another, and without these skills, we'd soon succumb to excess stress and break down.

Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem is a behavioral and thought pattern in which an individual lacks self-confidence and a healthy sense of self-regard.

While low self-esteem itself is not a medical diagnosis, it is often serious enough that it negatively impacts the life and well-being of the person with low self-esteem. It is likewise often accompanied by mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, and can occur as a result of these conditions or on its own.

Relationships

Couples

Despite being one of the greatest sources of joy in our lives, romantic relationships are incredibly hard work. Often, it is those we love most who can become the source of our greatest disagreements, and left unaddressed, these disagreements can grow and fester over time to become one of the greatest sources of pain in our lives.

Is Online Therapy Effective?

Much like traditional therapy, it really all comes down to the client's determination and effort to take support from the therapist and apply it to their lives.

CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) can be applied and implemented into a session whether in person or over video.

Seeking help and changing one's life is ultimately up to the end-user. There's no one that can do it for us.

A small 2014 study also found that teens who were counseled over the phone for obsessive compulsive disorder found just as much success in treatment as their peers who met therapists face-to-face. And more recently, researchers in South Carolina found that veterans who experience post-traumatic stress disorder respond just as well to therapy over videoconference to treatment received in office.

Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, Susan E. Palsbo, Center for Health and Disability Research, 2007: This study was conducted to determine if telepractice was equivalent to in-person service delivery. Results show that "post-discharge therapy and evaluation using video conferencing are equivalent to face-to-face therapy and evaluation for post-stroke patients."
