Overcomers Counseling offers counseling focused on peer relationships across Colorado Springs, Aurora, Fort Collins, and Pueblo, plus statewide teletherapy.

You Don't Have to Navigate This Alone

Peer relationships shape so much of how kids, teens, and even adults see themselves. Struggles here — whether it's loneliness, conflict, bullying, or difficulty reading social cues — can affect confidence, mood, and daily life. Our therapists offer a supportive space to build skills and process what's happening socially, without shame.

What Counseling Can Support

Sessions often focus on building social skills and confidence, processing experiences with bullying or exclusion, navigating friendship conflict, managing social anxiety, and supporting kids and teens through the ups and downs of peer dynamics. Parents also gain tools to support their child through these challenges.

How Our Therapists Help

Our providers use age-appropriate approaches to build social confidence, communication skills, and emotional resilience, tailored to the specific challenges you or your child are facing. FAQs about Peer Relationships

What is the goal of counseling for peer relationships?

Navigating friendships and social groups can feel like you're trying to find your way through a giant social maze. The goal of counseling isn’t to give you a map. It's to help you develop the confidence to navigate the maze on your own. We'll work together to help you build a stronger sense of self-worth and give you the tools to create healthy and meaningful friendships. We believe you have the power to create a social life that feels authentic to you.

How can I make new friends as an adult?

Making friends as an adult can feel like a high-stakes, confusing game. But it doesn't have to be. Counseling can help you build the confidence to put yourself out there and find people who share your values and interests. We'll help you get a user manual for that game and give you the tools to connect with others on a deeper level. You are not alone in this, and we're here to help you get there.

How does counseling help with social anxiety and peer pressure?

Social anxiety can feel like a constant, noisy chatter in your mind, preventing you from ever truly being yourself. Peer pressure can feel like you're being pulled in a direction you don’t want to go. Counseling helps you turn down the volume on that chatter and build the confidence to say "no." We'll help you build a stronger sense of self and the courage to live a life that feels authentic to you, not to someone else.

What are some common challenges in peer relationships?

Friendships are a lot like plants—they need to be nurtured and cared for to grow. But sometimes, they can feel like they're in a rocky garden. It's normal to deal with things like jealousy, gossip, and conflict. Counseling can help you navigate those challenges with grace and confidence. We'll help you build the skills you need to have healthy friendships, so you can stop feeling stressed and start feeling supported.

AI Summary
Across hundreds of client reviews, one theme comes through again and again: people feel truly heard here. Clients describe finally finding a therapist who understood them, gaining real tools for anxiety, trauma, and anger management, and walking away from sessions feeling lighter and more hopeful. Many say Overcomers was the first place therapy actually felt like the right fit — a space to be met with warmth, patience, and genuine care on the path to becoming who they're meant to be.

I have been with overcomers for years as a therapy patient and recently transfered from a different psychiatrist to Shannon Powell. She made the whole process so simple and seamless. I was honestly expecting things to be a lot more difficult but was pleasantly surprised. Thank you for making me feel so heard and understood! 10/10 stars!

Miranda Puente, LSW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I feel like she listens to everything I have to say in a non-judgemental way. She remains nuetral and provide valid information as necessary and doesnt feed into my delusions, yet help me escape them step by step. When we are speaking i feel she is very attentive and engage in the conversation(s) at hand. I enjoy how relatable she can be on difficult topics. All I have to say about Miranda is GOAT.

Rahel has been a joy to work with so far. She's very pleasant and seems excited to help me with my mental health journey. She's very welcoming and easy to warm up. She listens intently, asks meaningful questions, gives helpful advice and affirmations, and is very responsive. She's prompt to our appointments and is very diligent in recalling and addressing things from our last session to help keep the flow and the conversation going. She's also very skilled in facilitating natural transitions in the conversation and topics. I'm very happy and grateful for her professional help!
