Post-Partum Mamas!

Group therapy for Moms battling postpartum depression.

Post-Partum Mamas!

Post-Partum Mamas

This group is for women who are mothers (biological or adoptive) to babies who would like to have an environment free to express feelings, thoughts, discuss myths around the 'perfect' mother and the pressures mothers feel.

Additionally, coping skills can be developed through using DBT, CBT, and interpersonal processing.

Topics to include:

  • Mothering the New Mother – responding to emotional needs in the postpartum period
  • Postpartum Depression, Anxiety and Overwhelm – understanding your experience and developing coping skills
  • Fostering Emotional Connections and Attachment with your Baby
  • Self-Care: What moms can do to prioritize themselves in order to be more present, mental health medications and therapy, exercise, socializing, etc.
  • The Darker, Real Sides of Motherhood – What isn't always discussed openly
  • Challenging the "Myths of Motherhood" – The pressures to be 'perfect', mother's experiences, how there is no one set standard of mothering, culture, race, gender and sexual orientation, and ability as it impacts motherhood
  • Frustration, Anger, and Irritability (at ourselves, partners, and/or children)
  • Couples Care – maintaining connection and intimacy after the baby is born
  • Motherhood and our Childhoods – our fears and hopes as mothers in relation to how we were mothered
  • Establishing Boundaries - developing confidence to parent and set boundaries with various family members (i.e. mother-in-laws) and other people who overstep when it comes to parenting and motherhood preferences

As a graduate with a Master of Social Work, I now have over eight years of clinical and non-clinical experience working with families. I have explored, analyzed, and used effective interventions for families, couples, and individuals based on what I've experienced as a nanny, child behavior specialist, social worker, and mental health therapist. Additionally, I specialize in working with children and adolescents struggling with defiance, neuro-typical difficulties/differences, trauma, and general anxiety/depression. I also work with adults and I believe trust and rapport are the foundational elements that make a therapeutic journey successful.

I use somatic experiencing techniques, DBT, CBT, ( EMDR if the client is an appropriate fit for this modality), and interpersonal processing mostly, among a few other techniques.
