Psychotherapist

LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, LSW, or MFT

If you've been in therapy before, you may have come across the acronyms LPC, LCSW, or LMFT when searching for a counselor. These letters stand for different types of licensed mental health professionals. An LPC, or Licensed Professional Counselor, is trained to provide talk therapy for individuals, couples, and families. They hold a master's degree in counseling or a related field and have completed supervised clinical experience. An LCSW, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker, also provides counseling services but may also have experience with issues related to social and community support systems. An LMFT, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, specializes in therapy for couples and families, with additional coursework and training in relationship dynamics and family systems theory. No matter the type of counselor you choose, finding someone who fits your needs and goals is important.
